We decided to fill the diesel tank before winter to minimise condensation. It turned into a 2 day mini-cruise.
For our trip in September we decided to visit our friends at Huddersfield. This involved a trip as far as Milnsbridge on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
For our first proper ‘holiday’ on NB Earl we decided to head for Skipton. This would involve stays in Leeds, passing through Saltaire and up the famous Bingley Five Rise.
James’s parents came over to see NB Earl and we pottered up towards Leeds for a couple of hours. My parents helped start my love of canals and boating when went on a narrowboat holiday in the 1970s.
Having agreed a handover date of Friday 15th July, we had week to bring Earl back up to our mooring at Lemonroyd Marina on the Aire & Calder just outside Leeds.
After so many years of reading blogs, reading magazines, taking holidays on hire boats and dreaming about living on a boat – we have actually bought one. After inheriting some money we decided that we should not wait for retirement to get a boat, but to seize the moment and go for it.
